Our family was one of the first to produce Metodo Classico sparkling wines in the Langhe. Grandfather Giovanni Battista was in love with sparkling wines and in the 1960s he undertook several trips to Champagne with his family to find inspiration. In 1967, was released the first bottle of sparkling wine, ‘Valsellera’: this is the name Giovanni Battista gave to his Metodo Classico, a name inspired by the valley where he built his winery in 1964, Val Scellera.
Inspire and never copy, let the vine and the territory speak, this was the lesson of grandfather Giovanni Battista.
2017 saw the birth of Valsellera ‘Pas Dosé’, the selection dedicated to Giovanni Battista Francone to celebrate 50 years of production of the family's Metodo Classico sparkling wine. Complexity, elegance, zero dosage are the key words of this wine that comes from the great selection of Chardonnay grapes and the best part of the must separated in pressing.
In 2020 we decided to enter the ‘Alta Langa’ world, to be part of this movement in great ferment: the Valsellera ‘Pas Dosé’ becomes Alta Langa docg; the vineyard changes, between the communes of Loazzolo and Bubbio, but not the technique and the passionate care.
Alta Langa is a DOCG established in 2011 that extends over 1200 high hills in southern Piedmont and is based on two grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We are fond of Chardonnay and therefore chose to produce a Blanc des Blancs, the rarest type.
In the Alta Langa area one can find the atmosphere of the Langhe of yesteryear, endless hills, quiet villages, steep slopes where each bunch is harvested at the price of great sacrifice. It is precisely from this quiet area that one of the most fashionable wines comes out, one that is suitable for parties or top cuisine: quite a challenge, isn't it?
