Neive, a charming municipality located a stone's throw from Barbaresco, is renowned for its high-quality wine production. Here, amidst lush hills and breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage landscapes, some of the world's most prized grapes are cultivated, resulting in wines that delight the palates of wine enthusiasts the world over.
There are four wines that best characterise the village, now we discover what they are and their peculiarities.
Barbera d'Alba
The first wine worth exploring is Barbera d'Alba, an intense and vibrant red wine that brings with it the authenticity and tradition of the Piedmontese lands. Characterised by a deep ruby colour and a complex aromatic bouquet, Barbera d'Alba enchants with its hints of ripe berries and spices. In the mouth, it reveals lively acidity and a full body, with soft tannins and a long persistence. It is the perfect companion for local dishes such as agnolotti del plin and veal dishes.
Our interpretation of Barbera d'Alba is the Barbera d'Alba l'Amorosa, for a fresher and fruitier version, and Barbera d'Alba Superiore I Patriarchi characterised by an important ageing in French oak barriques that helps this variety to best express its intense aromas and to soften the acidic tension on the palate.
Barbaresco
Barbaresco, considered the 'king of wines' of Neive, is an elegant and refined red wine that carries with it the prestige and history of the region. Obtained from Nebbiolo grapes grown on the hills of Neive, Barbaresco and treiso this wine is distinguished by its intense garnet colour and its enveloping bouquet, reminiscent of roses, ripe cherries and oriental spices. In the mouth, it is rich, complex and structured, with silky tannins and a long finish. Barbaresco pairs beautifully with traditional dishes such as braised Barbaresco and aged cheeses.
Our selection of Barbaresco has grown over time, and now includes no less than six labels, almost all of which are interpretations of individual vineyards (MGA) in the municipality of Neive. First and foremost is the Barbaresco Gallina, which comes from a historic family vineyard located on the hill of the same name, with excellent southern exposure and soil rich in calcareous marl, which is interesting for enhancing the aromas and tannins of Nebbiolo. This vineyard boasts vines that are over 50 years old, this factor certainly influences the refinement of the wine and allows us to extrapolate all the authenticity of the Langa vine par excellence. A few years ago we introduced the Barbaresco Fausoni and from 2020 also the new Starderi and Albesani, both important vineyards in the commune. Our historical labels complete the selection: the Barbaresco I Patriarchi and the Barbaresco Riserva.
Dolcetto d'Alba
Dolcetto d'Alba is a young, fruity red wine that captures the essence of Piedmontese tradition and conviviality. With its bright violet colour and its scent of fresh berries, Dolcetto d'Alba invites you to a cheerful and carefree sip. In the mouth, it is light and lively, with pleasant acidity and delicate tannins. Perfect with simple local dishes such as bagna cauda (warm oil, garlic and anchovy sauce) and pasta with fresh tomato sauce.
Our Dolcetto d'Alba Menturin is the symbol of the winery's tradition; it is a historic wine made from grapes grown in the Menturin vineyard on the hillsides of Gallina, on the southern side. A Dolcetto that brings out the freshness of red fruits on the nose and expresses structured and enveloping tannins on the palate.
Moscato d'Asti
Finally, we cannot forget Moscato d'Asti, a sweet and aromatic white wine that enchants the senses with its freshness and liveliness. Produced from Moscato grapes grown in the rolling hills of Neive, this wine is distinguished by its bright straw colour and its enveloping bouquet of white flowers, peach and citrus fruits. In the mouth, it is fresh, slightly sparkling and surprisingly balanced, with an explosion of fruity flavours and a delicate sweetness. Moscato d'Asti is ideal as an aperitif or accompaniment to desserts such as hazelnut cake and fresh berries.
Whether it is the robust Barbera d'Alba, the elegant Barbaresco, the joyful Dolcetto d'Alba or the delicious Moscato d'Asti, each wine tells a unique story and invites you to celebrate the richness and diversity of Italy's wine heritage. We look forward to seeing you in the cellar to let you taste all four wines... and much more!
